From the start I had the idea to create a painting that takes a closer look at puddles. And the name of that painting should be “little mirrors”, because puddles can reflect like mirrors. As usual I did my home work and I got inspired by some streets in Amsterdam in the so called “Apollo neighborhood”. That’s located in the south part of Amsterdam, called “Oud Zuid”. To get an idea, this part of Amsterdam is build around 1900-1930. During my painting process I change the original idea behind this painting. Reason was very simple. In Holland we did not have a winter. Actually, we had a fall that went over in an early spring. In that period I worked on this painting. Due to the new leaves, fresh flowers, blossoms etc. which I experienced during this early spring, I changed my point of view about what this painting should tell the viewer. I decided that spring must be more dominant. Puddles are fun, but a colorful and new spring makes everyone happy. And that’s where it is all about with my paintings. So the painting got this new name, “Spring Street”. For now, I hope it that the viewers experience the same happiness I had during my painting of “Spring Street”.
